Pioneer High School Student Trainer in the Spotlight

Sharyland Pioneer High School Student Named

RGV VATA Student Ambassador

Nico Iracheta, a junior at Sharyland Pioneer High School, has been representing Sharyland for the last 3 years as a member of the Rio Grande Valley Athletic Trainers Association.  This year, Nico has been selected as the first ever VATA Student Ambassador.  He will be representing Sharyland Pioneer High School as a Valley Athletic Student Trainer of the Upper RGV.  Responsibilities will include but are not limited to networking with all VATA Members including promoting student activities and community service projects.

The VATA Student Affairs Committee is exited to know that as Athletic Training Sponsors they are inspiring students about the field of athletic training.  The athletic trainer is an allied health care professional that specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and immediate care of injuries, as well as the rehabilitation and reconditioning of acute and chronic medical conditions and injuries.  Nico has been inspired and mentored by Sharyland High School trainers: Jason Smith, Roby Montoya and Aaron Moss.

The Valley Athletic Trainers Association was founded in 2001 by a group of athletic trainers, who saw the need for a professional organization in the Rio Grande Valley. Since that time VATA has grown in to an organization with more than 70 members. It provides continuing education credit through the South Padre Athletic Training Seminar, a CEU Lecture Series, and a Student Trainer Workshop.
